Hello, hello!
I am so excited about this week’s topic in all things wedding. Recently I’ve been zoning in on the wedding trends for the upcoming year and have newly found the term “cottagecore”. While I certainly know my fair share of wedding trends, this one happened to be new to me – but I’m so glad I get to share it with you!
Cottagecore is defined by things romantic, simplistic, and ethereal. This design and theming pulls inspiration from simpler living and merges with the romanticism of fairytales’ once upon a timeliness. Think baking bread, homemade crafts, tending your garden, and afternoon tea, for example.
I think we could all use a break from reality to focus on the true pleasures of life, and I can definitely see where this new trend is sourcing from given our most recent years were spent tuning in to fun activities of the past while quarantining. I know I’ve definitely gotten into more home projects than in the past years!
This theming ties in the carefree feel of the boho wedding trend with the simplistic and comforting styles of the traditional English countryside. While peasant tops and flowing sundresses have started coming back into fashion, the aesthetic of cottagecore is full of cozy and warm vibes of being in the present moment.
So….now that we’ve covered what cottagecore IS, how do you incorporate this theming into your wedding day? In my opinion, cottagecore is much more about a feeling than the look it provides. From flower crowns to flowing bridesmaid dresses, there are plenty of options to include some nods to simplistic living into your big day.
Low candlelight and freshly baked pies, folk tunes, and wildflower centerpieces all provide a beautiful, intimate setting to celebrate your love. Think Snow White’s cottage in the forest. While there is plenty of inspiration online, you can always find your own look by using your own resources. Does grandma have some beautiful china from when she was married? Do you love the look of vintage suitcases and dried flowers? Are you a big fan of warm tones and candlelight? All of these things can be personalized to you to make your wedding your own while also nodding to the subtleties of cottagecore.
Another wonderful perk of this trend is the sustainability it breeds. Instead of purchasing new linens, plates, centerpieces, and romantic floral prints, many couples are looking to their local thriftshops and older relatives to borrow some truly magical nostalgia. Characterized by quaint and airy living, this beautiful theming is something with white you can’t go wrong!
Whether you want to go all in on a fairytale forest nuptials or simply love the way those flowy sleeves look on your wedding gown – it seems the cottagecore trend is here to stay for a while. Softer textures, earthy colors, and storyland theming is definitely welcome in the wedding world.
And there you have it! A new trend to obsess over in the coming months during your planning…and an awesome benefit of reusing and recycling as a perk!
If you need help coordinating your happily ever after and the seven dwarfs are nowhere to be found – look no further! I am more than happy to help you plan the day of your dreams!
Until next time,
Lexi
