May is officially here!
While spring is certainly upon us, I’ve been having many calls from couples ready to make up what was lost in 2020, and boy have I been BUSY! Luckily, as an event-industry professional, I’m good at juggling. 😉
Today, we’re talking about comfort and offering guests a little hospitality during your big day. While weddings are certainly for celebrating, dancing, and gathering your closest crowd around you and your new spouse’s love, there are definitely little things you can offer that make a big difference to their comfort – and keep them around in the meantime to keep the party going!
1)Â Â Â Â Â Â Maps and Directions
When traveling to a new destination (specifically your out-of-town guests, but everyone likes a visual of where they’re headed!) This can be such an easy and small personal touch that shows your guests that you truly care about them and their stress levels. Providing a small map with written directions to your venue/ceremony space/after-party and possibly even their hotel can start the celebration off on the right foot – and keep the “I’m lost, please help me” phone calls to a minimum!
Everyone likes a little sugar! While personalized items like champagne glasses or take-home gifts can be nice, most guests seem to prefer something useful – or edible! Consider a candy bar, coffee or tea selections, or even handmade candles or plants to enjoy once they’re home. These little comforts can provide a smile while they’re celebrating AND when they are reminiscing over how much fun your wedding was.
3)Â Â Â Â Â Â Bathroom Baskets
This is definitely not a necessity, but I always recommend my couples include some small complimentary items in each bathroom to provide comfort and ease to your guests while enjoying your wedding. From ear plugs to sandals, these baskets can include personalized items to your wedding. If you think your ladies will be tired of standing in their heels, consider some flip flops to offer them. If you have the budget, including items like Tylenol, make-up wipes, tide pens, and tissues can be such a nice touch and really make a difference to your guests! Most of these items can easily be found at your local dollar store and really change the wedding game! Your guests will know you care about their comfort and will tend to stay longer to celebrate once their dancing feet have been rejuvenated or their headache is a distant memory!
4)Â Â Â Â Â Â Hot and Cold
Being mindful of the elements of your wedding will truly provide the best scenario for your guests. While a July sunset ceremony certainly SOUNDS nice, it can definitely be HOT! Providing fans or sunscreen can truly transform your ceremony space and keep your guests around for cocktail hour! If you’re planning an outdoor event, please keep in mind that your guests may not have thought about how cold or hot they might get, so this is where your team of wedding professionals can come to the rescue and really make a difference in their comfort!
5)Â Â Â Â Â Â Transportation
Transportation is such an easy and simple way to make a huge difference in the way your guests remember your event. If you have an additional space to host your reception or cocktail hour, keep in mind that your guests need to get there! Providing buses, trams, or even themed transportation like a trolley can make a HUGE difference and keep your guests dancing right up until the last song. Once your event ends, providing transportation for your out-of-towners back to their hotels can also be a wonderful addition and truly show them how grateful you are for them to join you on your big day. While these tips are certainly not the only tricks to have up your sleeve for the wedding day, I hope these get you thinking about some items to include for your guests. If you need help personalizing your own comfort items for your guests – I am more than happy to help!
