What a year this has been! Thinking back to this time last year – who would have ever guessed what we would be facing less than 3 months into 2020!?!
I doubt any of you were NOT affected by the upheaval to life as we had known it – everything from schools moving to online instruction, travel plans upended, weddings rescheduled (maybe even twice), new ways to keep in touch via online options, and concern over the health of our family and friends, and so much more! Our family has not yet directly been affected, but we have friends who have had family members who had the coronavirus.
My first wedding this year was a leap-day wedding and pre-COVID!!! One couple moved their date from May to August. Some of my couples kept their original wedding fall 2020 date, and my last wedding of 2020 decided to reschedule to spring 2021. The rest of my 2020 weddings have rescheduled to 2021, and I am so looking forward to celebrating with my couples! And, looking at 2021 in the role of mother of the bride (my daughter’s wedding is June 2021) takes on additional emotions for me!
Current couples everywhere are reimagining what their wedding day will look like to them – smaller guest list or keep the same size and move the date; choose to move to an outdoor (and partially tented) event, so they aren’t celebrating in an enclosed space; some have had to be okay with certain special people not attending their wedding day because of the fear of being exposed to the virus. For each and every couple, those decisions are very hard to make and can lead to disappointment. You plan for months (or years) for your wedding day, and then to have to regroup and figure out what Plan B (and maybe Plan C and D!) will be can be so frustrating! Just remember, that you as the wedding couple, should do what is best for the two of you.
As we finish out this crazy year of 2020, Events by Lexi would like to remind you that we are here for all of your events, weddings, and tears of joy as you join together to begin the next chapter in your lives. Stay tuned for a future post that will be about my 2020 wedding couples who did get married this year — why they decided to have their wedding amidst the pandemic, their beautiful memories, some tips to share with engaged couples, and more! Perhaps you can get garner some great information from their experience!
Lastly, I recently listened to a Facebook video where the presenter talked about what her “word” was for this year of 2020 and what her new word is for 2021. Have you done that before — had a word for the year? A few years ago I did, and my word was “Joy” — that year ended up being filled with much joy in all areas of my life. As I wait to determine my word for 2021, have you chosen a word to represent what you hope for in 2021? Would love to know what word you choose! Share in the comment section.
We’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New year!!
From our family to yours — may your holiday season be blessed and may the New Year bring you health, happiness, and peace.
