Yes, I am a fan of classic and following customary wedding traditions, however, there is something to be said about mixing it up a bit and your centerpieces should be no exception!
While flowers are beautiful, some couples may choose another alternative when taking into account theming, budget, or simply taste. Your centerpieces have a direct effect on how your guests perceive your reception hall as they are one of the first things that catch the eye when walking into the event space. There are many different alternatives to florals when choosing your centerpieces, and today we’ll go over a few of those options!
First and foremost, you can always mix things up but keep them natural by selecting non-floral, natural plants. These can be air plants, foliage, or even the ever popular succulent. Your florals and decor style possess the power to enchant your guests, and this option will also save you a little in your budget as they do not cost nearly as much as traditional roses, lilies, or other floral options. With many of the following options, you can always opt to choose florals in your bouquets and boutonnieres so you are still showcasing beautiful flowers in your hand down the aisle and beautiful plants on your tables.
Other Living Things:
Nowadays, many couples choose other living things to showcase for their centerpieces. Whether it be fruit for a summery, tropical theme or something a little more whimsical like fish bowls to wow your guests, many of these items are often still more affordable than floral arrangements.
If you and your future spouse prefer books over botanicals, it’s perfectly acceptable to choose a stack of your shared favorite books on your tables to set your theme. Taking your theme into mind when choosing centerpieces can prove very helpful in finding exactly what you’re looking for. Perhaps you and your partner are hosting an adventure/travel themed wedding. Instead of flowers, you could consider globes, mementos from past trips, or even theming your tables to the countries you visited. The sky is the limit here when choosing something just right, and I encourage my couples to always consider every option before making their choice.
Ambiance:
Another classic and subtle choice for centerpieces could be candles. Lighting can change an entire space, and the event space is no exception. Candles are truly something that can turn even the most flamboyant event space into a sensational and romantic setting with just the addition of a few candles and turning the lights down low. Please keep in mind though, many event spaces now do not allow real candles, so you would need to invest in LED candles to ensure you were meeting your venue’s guidelines. I have seen candles done with florals surrounding, on mirrors, floating, or even on their own. Feel free to experiment and come up with something that is truly your own!
There are many other options to discuss, but when it comes to decor, sometimes thinking outside of the box can really prove helpful in your design elements. You can find the perfect solution to what you’re looking for while staying within your budget and wowing your guests! Please be sure to consider all opportunities to really drive home your theme and explore any cost conscious options that prove to be worth your while. While tradition typically points to flowers, there are countless other alternatives available. Even some that may suit you a bit better for your theme!
