We’re back again with another installment in the “questions to ask” series! Today, we’re talking all things florals. While florals may not be at the top of your to-do list right now, fresh and beautiful bouquets can always create a more put-together look for your wedding day.
As always, we begin by asking our wedding professionals if they are available on your wedding day. Once that is out of the way, you can begin asking them if they’ve ever been to your particular venue and if they have any additional weddings on your wedding date. If it’s important to do a venue walk-through with your florist, this is the time to ask, as well as asking if they’ll be arranging the florals themselves or if their team will be helping. Another important question to find out is if they prepare the florals the day of your wedding or prior to and/or how far in advance they prepare the florals, so they still look fabulous on the wedding day.
Another important aspect of florals is to consider your budget. Flowers can range anywhere from just greenery and a few buds to extravagant and expensive six-foot sculptures. I’m guessing your budget lands somewhere in between, so discussing this expectation is a must when choosing your professional florist.
Once you’ve worked out the budget and date, you’ll want to discuss what kind of florals you’d like to showcase. Obviously, your wedding theme and colors come in to play here, but your florist team should be able to provide some insight on what flowers are in season, colors, and availability. These are wonderful professionals who should know exactly what kind of florals will be in season and best for your wedding day! If they seem hesitant, my advice would be to seek out another expert in your area. At times, brides will choose photos to help inspire their floral team, and I suggest always bringing a few different photos so that you can be sure the design will be something you adore, and that it will fit in your budget.
Some additional and important things to consider are also how many florals you’ll need besides the bouquets and boutonnieres. Most couples do use flowers or greenery as centerpieces on guest tables, cakes, and even as part of their ceremony. If your budget is a little tighter, a good option for this is to use your bridal party’s bouquets for centerpieces at the reception (just remember to have nice vases to put them in)! Ceremony florals can be repurposed for the reception, too! The more conversation you have with your florist about these needs, the more clear you both will be when it comes to the wedding day. Plus, they may have even more ideas on how to make your dollars stretch!
Last, but certainly not least, you’ll need to find out any fees the florist will have for things like moving florals from the ceremony site to reception site, coming back to pick up anything you have rented, etc.. There are, of course, florists who will help you with all of your needs when it comes to your flowers, but this is often an extra fee that needs to be discussed prior to signing the contract.
Hopefully with these tips, you’ll find the perfect florist for you and your future spouse. Ultimately, it’s all about communication and ensuring everyone is on the same page so that your wedding day can be everything you’ve ever visualized!
