Have we got a special treat for you, dear readers!
I wanted to do a series on the event venues I have been to, planned events at, or maybe just dream of working with one day. As I’ve been to quite a few in my years of planning, this was a tricky decision as to who to pick first! Ultimately, the first venue I’ve chosen to feature is Linganore Winecellars for their sophisticated indoor and scenic outdoor settings that my brides have utilized to their full potential!
This secluded, rustic setting was planted and began in 1972, amongst dairy cows and corn fields on an old farm in Mount Airy, Maryland. This beautiful and lush estate spans a huge 230 acres, complete with 70 acres of vineyards. Picture rolling hills, serene ponds, and various indoor and outdoor event facilities to choose from. The photographs turn out AMAZING. (See what I’m talking about?!)

My first time at Linganore Winecellars was in June 2014, for a couple who had a church wedding and then the reception at Linganore’s Abisso Hall. Since then, I have been back five times – and look forward to working here in the very near future! Next, I was at Linganore in November 2014 with a couple for whom I provided full-service coordination. Their ceremony focal point was enhanced with drapery and lighting as a backdrop, and then along with staff, we were able to quickly and seamlessly move that same backdrop to their sweetheart table for the reception. It was amazing!

Abisso Banquet Hall is located inside a restored 19th century barn, is over 4,000 (!!) sq. ft., has 23-ft. ceilings, and has natural wood walls just begging to be personalized by your unique event vision. Operated by the sons of the founders, each event is crafted to perfection from the first initial consultation to the final goodbye. Abisso Hall accommodates 165 guests in exposed chestnut post and beam construction. The barn has been fully modernized with heating and air conditioning for you and your guests’ comfort and is the perfect temperature for weddings all year round!
The remaining weddings I have coordinated at Linganore Winecellars had their ceremonies on the crest of a featured hill on the property in the rustic outdoor setting overlooking the estate. The rolling, breezy hills of their west vineyard lawn feature awe-inspiring views of the vineyards which are perfect for a seasonal wedding. Though my clients did not elect this option, the estate offers designated areas for tented wedding receptions to utilize and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. The weddings above were in the summer months and we were able to have our cocktail hour in the Berrywine Pavillion. The spacious, 4,500 sq. ft. open-air pavilion accommodates up to 200 guests standing and creates a great transition space to lead up to none other than the very popular Abisso Banquet Hall, which all five of my clients have most enjoyed. There’s just something about a post and beam barn that you can’t stay away from.

I couldn’t mention Linganore Winecellars without also mentioning their in-house caterer, Fine Cuisine. Their menus offer a traditional, elegant fare that can be customized into contemporary options no matter your budget. Their staff is wonderful to work with, though they don’t provide any wedding coordination…that’s where your Certified Wedding Planner (me) comes in.
Last but certainly not least, with their newly opened microbrewery, Linganore boasts a full line up of wine and beer which is exclusively served at weddings and events year round. From seasonal beers to summer, berry-flavored wines, you can rest assured their huge menu will accommodate even the pickiest guest. I would highly recommend a quick trip over to their beautiful estate to partake in an afternoon tasting some of their award-winning wines and peek inside this venue. Then call me, because we’ve got some planning to do!
