As we head into the cold winter months, I wanted to talk about some amazing tips and options to keep your guests warm and toasty on your special day! Whether you plan on getting married indoors or have decided to utilize an outdoor space for cocktail hour or your winter wonderland ceremony, you’ve got options!
As we all know, communication is key, so this is my very first and most important tip. If you know it will be cold on your wedding day or you will be spending a lot of time outdoors with your guests, it is very important to stress this note to your guests on your wedding website and give the average expected temperature that weekend. This helps your guests plan ahead for the outside time and keep warm while enjoying the day with you!
If you’d rather stay outside to enjoy the cooler temperatures all of your wedding day, consider renting a tent with separate areas for your guests to recline and relax. For example, hosting dinner in a well-lit warm seating area, and providing cozy places to rest in between dancing and socializing can be a great idea. Keeping the dance floor closer to the entrance of your reception would help to cool off the guests who are grooving while keeping your seated guests warm.
Another wonderful option that I’m a big fan of is providing seasonal touches for your guests to enjoy. This could be anything from a warm and delicious signature drink (think: a creative twist on apple cider!) or providing color-coordinating scarves and wraps with your monogram or names featured on them with either a label or stitched into the fabric. There are limitless options to creating a perfect solution for you while also ensuring your guests are enjoying their time and not focused on when they get to go home!
Another thing to consider when hosting outdoors is the food! From grilled cheese and tomato soup to more elevated offerings like lobster bisque, your caterer will have some amazing culinary offerings to plan ahead for the cold. These solutions can be the perfect option for when your guests need a little warm-up! While we’re on the subject of food, let’s go ahead and talk about some other options you can choose for your drinks! Anything from coffee to spiked hot chocolate, mint tea, or seasonal and delicious mulled wine, you can find the perfect cocktail – or create it! – by thinking outside of the box.
If you’ll be outdoors for the entirety of the evening, consider engaging your guests with a bonfire (if the venue allows!!)! If you prefer a little more casual of a setting, you can always skip the cake and go right to the s’mores for dessert. This cozy option can really set the mood for the evening and I think it can be very charming!
As you can see, there are multiple ways to make your winter wonderland wedding an option without freezing your guests away! If you need some assistance in finding the right options for you, I am only a phone call away! I would love to discuss your wedding details and help you plan the wedding of your dreams.
