Today we’re talking about a subject that can be a little tricky when planning your wedding.
The favor for your guests is a complicated choice and really should reflect the theme and day of your wedding. This is because favors are usually taken by your guests toward the end of your wedding, making it one of the lasting impressions they leave with. Whether you are choosing to have an edible favor (i.e., cake, cupcakes, candy buffet, cookies) or prefer to go with another option – let’s discuss the many options available to you!
Your favors don’t have to be edible. I tell my couples that their best bet is to seek out something that doesn’t last long term. Many people won’t have any use for their customized etched mason jar once they get it home, and while they love you, they won’t want to clutter up their cabinets! I believe the best bet with favors is something your guests will enjoy short-term but remember for ages. This brings me to our first topic…used now!
As I mentioned, I believe your guests will enjoy their favors more if they’re able to use or consume them immediately OR savor them for another day. From donut sticks to ice pops, candy bars to custom cookies – the best way to decide on what you’d prefer to give away is to think about your theme. Everyone loves a good local treat so you could try something specific to the area in which you are getting married (Maryland couples — whoopie pies, Old Bay seasoned chips, etc.)!
Getting married in the winter? What about some cute-themed Chapstick? Possibly some apple cider in to-go cups as your guests head out for the evening? By being creative, you’ll help your guests remember what fun they had at your wedding but also avoid giving them something they won’t use again.
If you think your guests will enjoy a sweet treat the morning after your wedding or perhaps will be too filled with dancing and celebratory drinks to really savor your gift, consider giving something packaged – like a cinnamon roll or hot flavored coffee mix to enjoy after the big day.
These can again be themed for your wedding. Are you big travelers and want to share your passion with your friends? Maybe share packaged teas from around the world as a last parting gift. Do you and your partner prefer to stay home and turn the heat up in the kitchen? Maybe a smaller bottle of hot sauce or infused olive oil suits you best.
To Have and To Hold
If you would really prefer to provide something to your guests that they can keep and enjoy in their homes, here are a few fun ideas that won’t end up making their way to the thrift shop.
If your theme is more romantic, there is absolutely nothing wrong with giving out scented candles or a soft leather journal. It’s these cozy touches that could have your guests remembering your wedding for years to come! I would only caution you when engraving your sweet favors to remember that not everyone wants your names front and center in their home, so subtlety is key!
Whether you choose to go all-in and host a candy bar or end up giving out sweet plant babies for your guests to grow at home – you’ll find the right fit for you and your guests. Just keep your theme in mind and everything will come together beautifully!
If you find yourself stuck or needing some extra brainstorming sessions, I’ve got your back! I’d love to schedule a consultation to help you determine your needs and work together to design the wedding of your dreams!
