Happy July!
I hope you all are staying safe and well as summer rolls through our weird but wonderful 2020. Though we are already halfway through the year, it seems like we are just getting started! Today I wanted to discuss table settings. What in the world do you include? What are some items you can skip? What are some options you can do to get creative with your weddings (or quarantine dinner times)?
Let’s jump right in!
To set up a table setting, you have to know exactly what will be ON your table first. Think about what you’d like your tables to reflect at your event. Do you want a simplistic and charming vibe, or would you prefer a more grand approach? If you are using centerpieces, will they be tall and regal or delicate and understated to accent your wedding? Knowing these small but important details will help you decide how much space you will have for the place settings and ultimately everything else that goes along with it.
The first decision is of course not actually ON the table but over the table and that is your linen backdrop. Many couples these days prefer a more natural look and choose to forgo them entirely in exchange for natural wood by using farm tables! It is totally your choice! Once you’ve chosen your linen backdrop, take stock of what utensils will be needed to eat the meal at the wedding. If you are only having a 2-course meal or a buffet, consider leaving out the extra salad forks and dessert spoons so you can save room on your table. On the other hand, if you plan on having a very formal affair, perhaps it is best to choose the flatware that matches your occasion. Ultimately, the venue or caterer you choose will most likely have these items, so you do not need to stress about this too much. Just make sure you confirm this before moving forward!
Now, for the fun part! I absolutely love it when I attend an event and the host has gone above and beyond, accenting the place setting with an item that mirrors the theme and brings everything together. While not mandatory, this is an easy way for you to thank your guests with little effort involved. Something like a sweet note thanking them for joining you at your wedding or something tangible they can take with them when they leave truly makes them feel special and excited and sends the message that the event would not be the same without them there to share it with you.
Table settings can be very confusing and overwhelming, but do not fear! With these small tips, the table settings can just be another fun detail you are able to coordinate within your wedding and a sweet memory of your wedding planning days to look back upon. If you are feeling a little drained and need some help choosing the right options for you, I would love to help!
