Have you ever been to a wedding or event and left saying “Wow! That party was so their style”? Or you may have thought the opposite! Either way, these are both great examples as to why it’s important to spend time branding your wedding and creating a theme to remember. That being said, it is much easier said than done. With all of the inspiration you can find and all of the interests you and your future spouse have – how do you pin down just one?! By following these steps, you can come up with a theme that fits you and your love just right!
Look for inspiration:
These days you can find inspiration anywhere. From the lampshades in Home Goods to the patterns of your favorite outfit. This is an exciting time in your life to think about what really moves you. What are your passions? What do you spend time doing on the weekend? Do you both have a great love for traveling?
Taking all of these options into consideration can help point you in the right direction on what you want your wedding theme and brand to feel like. If you haven’t already booked your venue, this can help guide you in the right choice. If you have, take inspiration from the venue as well. What made you choose that space? What characteristics did you fall in love with? By knowing what you do and do not like when it comes to style, this will help you create the best brand for your big day.
Choosing your theme:
Looking at all of the inspiration around you, focus on one or two interests or one overall theme you can really see shaping your day. Whether this is a black and white polka dot pattern or the simple fact you love skiing together – make sure not to overdo it. By choosing a few simple interests, these will be enough to create a color palette, design and theme to carry throughout your day. There are many wedding designers out there who can help you shape your vision. If you both met in college and love your alma mater, consider your color palette being your past college colors.
Building your brand:
Once you’ve been through the process of determining what it is you like and what you both are leaning towards, what color palette goes with that and what theme you want to focus on, it’s time to build your brand! By creating simple, consistent details throughout your event, you can begin to plan an overall theme. Is nature your preference? Talk with your florist about incorporating plenty of natural greenery and florals into your day. Theme your save-the-date cards to set the mood early – perhaps in the shape of the mountains you love to run away to or the beautiful scenery at your favorite beach. The important thing to a brand is consistent, but subtle touches throughout the wedding. One word of caution: avoid theming EVERYTHING. Instead, focus on simple touches where they matter to avoid overdoing the theme.
This may seem like an overwhelming feat in the depths of planning an entire wedding – but never fear! By following these steps, you can determine what it is you want your wedding to reflect and begin incorporating that into your planning.
