Christmas is here and I can’t wait! With this season comes a lot of sweets and treats, and I can’t help but peruse all of the yummy options highlighted on my Pinterest board that I have collected just waiting to be re-created in real time. Cookies, candies, fruit kabobs and obviously, cake! I have over 80 pins on this subject…I guess you could say I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth!
Whether you are, as a couple, considering donuts, cookies, candy bars, parfaits or a seated treat, alternative desserts have become quite popular in recent years for weddings. Though cake is the traditional sweet chosen by most couples, there are plenty of other options if cake is not what your heart is set on. Many couples have elected to make a “cake” out of donuts, or forget the dough all together and dip fresh fruit and rice krispies into a chocolate fondue experience, or even nitro-infused ice cream! Your guests will love the immersive experience, and it’s self-serve, too!
If you have your heart set on cake after all, there are plenty of ways to personalize yours to where you and your spouse are reflected. Consider having different flavors or colors to match your wedding theme, or keep it simple with elegant white piping in buttercream. Fondant is loved by many bakers as it is easier to showcase decorative elements on your cake. There are so many things your cake vendor can come up with to portray your theme the way you will love. Dream big!

As for favors, there are many edible options that provide a fun twist on the classic options. Instead of an etched mason jar or wine glass, consider having your guests dig into a color-coded candy bar, a dessert bar or a popcorn bar to take home for later! Cake pops are a very POPular option as well, and these can be also iced in coordinating colors or even as brides and/or grooms! The options are endless when it comes to finding the right treat for you and your guests.

Also, pinned to this board are a couple of ideas for your cake toppers. Check them out here. Involving your caterer or dessert baker and having a conversation on what colors, styles, and frosting preferences you have is a great way to tie it all together. If fondant isn’t your thing, tell your baker! They are usually more than happy to accommodate what you’d like and brainstorm options to get you the design of your dreams.
This Pinterest board I’ve compiled is only the tip of the ICINGberg! Overall, your sweet treats come down to what you want your event to reflect. If you take your time thinking about what you’d really like to portray with your day (and what treats you and your future spouse like to eat when the cravings hit), you will be much happier with the desserts produced! Working with your Certified Wedding Planner and your baker to communicate what you’d like is key for your event. Whether it’s ice cream, churros, or parfaits your heart desires, be sure to communicate this to your caterer or cake baker to achieve the treats you will remember!
