Spring has officially sprung here at Events by Lexi, and we are definitely soaking in those April showers and hoping for some May sunshine. Today, we’re talking about seasonal color trends and how to choose the right color for your wedding.
Personalization is key when choosing colors, and with as many colors as there are vendors you have to call, you might feel like you’ve gotten spring fever. Never fear! We’ve got the perfect plan to get you saying “I do” to the color palate of your dreams and on to theming every detail of the reception to match.
First things first: choose your season. The 2019 Pantone color of the year, “Living Coral,” is giving us all the spring vibes and has us dreaming of peonies, tulips, and all things pastel – but that wouldn’t necessarily look as appropriate in the warm colors of fall weather. While there’s no hard rule on choosing colors that match your season, we can’t argue that certain colors suit the natural seasonal color changes. Bold, bright patterns and colors look intense against a natural spread of summer green, whereas dark jewel tones might stand out against a vast white spread of snow. Considering this when planning your colors might be a great way to start.
Another great consideration is to envision your colors within your venue (if you’ve already booked one). If you are getting married in a tropical-themed oasis, you may want to think about this before buying everything red, black and white. If you are getting married in the ever-popular barn or rustic reception venue, this color-neutral arena provides just the right situation to select from a vast array of color palette options. Having a “blank slate” gives you opportunity use themed-colors and it might be something to consider, so that you can have the lime green and hot pink wedding you’ve always dreamed of!
Once you’ve decided your season and venue, you can begin to choose your base color. This will be the color you refer to throughout your planning process, and one that is most prominently displayed at your wedding. The base color can be any color, depending on what theme you want to convey to your guests. From royal blue to tickle me pink, you can choose whichever you think will most translate to your overall theme.
Then, you can begin pairing a full-color palette to match. These colors are complementary colors, usually anywhere from 2-3. That being said, your accents can be subtle, complementary colors or bold, stand-out colors that make an impact. The important part is that you love them and can easily see a theme beginning to develop from choosing these colors.
It’s important to consider style of both you and your future spouse. (!!) Zero in on your likes and dislikes. Look through each other’s closets. Find inspiration in your home décor. Finding your style is easier than you think when you are surrounded already by what you love. Some wedding couples choose to go a step further and theme their weddings from popular movies, TV shows or just favorite things they love. Whatever you choose, you just need to love it! Many couples get so caught up in all of the details they forget to have fun. This is your wedding, and you can make it exactly how you’d love it to be! Find inspiration in the little things around you, and the colors will begin to peek out at you from places you’d never think of.
I’d love to talk about color palettes, seasons, and all things wedding with you! If you are in the market for someone who knows how to handle the details, reach out at 410.978.2048 to schedule a free consultation today!
