Corporate Events
Social, Structured, and Team Building!
While most of my work lately has been in wedding planning, management and coordination, Events by Lexi also offers corporate event planning — an business or social event hosted by a company for its employees, business partners, clients, and/or prospective clients that can be managed by an independent event planner.
My entry into the world of corporate event planning actually started in the early 1990’s (!) as I was hired as a seminar coordinator for the new business team of an HR consulting firm in Washington, DC. The company itself was worldwide, and my role was to provide coordination for events the DC office held. One of those seminars was also held in Baltimore and in the Virginia Beach area, and I loved being able to travel! Once I started working at that office, I was hooked on event planning!
The specific duties of a corporate event planner/meeting planner can vary slightly, with the main task for the event planner being to ensure that the meeting/event achieves its purpose!! A corporate event planner coordinates every detail of large (or small) functions from beginning through a post-event review meeting. Some businesses plan to have their already very busy staff take care of the details for the event, but with all their other tasks, those individuals may not have the time to make sure all is taken care of and that nothing falls through the cracks.

While not typically involved in the content of the program, corporate event planners make sure that what is needed for the presentation(s) is secured and that event goes smoothly. As an independent corporate event planner, I attend multiple planning sessions with the host of the event or in-house committee, where we review the planning timeline, as well as discuss next steps in planning and creating the program to make sure all is happening on schedule!
Many of the steps in corporate event planning are the same as in wedding planning, with just a few differences. The corporate event still needs an appropriate venue (based on the type of event, location, ease of access for guests, etc.), food & beverage, A/V equipment, etc., just like a wedding. A few additional things needed for a corporate event versus a wedding could include arranging for speakers at the event, easy on-site registration and courteous staff, the latest technology (to include charging stations for guests to charge their devices during the conference event), breakout rooms, and more.
