Happy August, friends!
We are heading into the end of summer and the beginning of Fall and, while the weather may not feel like it yet, engagement season is upon us.
Whether you are just starting to think about wedding bells or are months into planning your vows, today’s topic is for anyone wanting to utilize some fun ideas on how to honor your parents at your wedding.
From gifts to speeches, there are plenty of options to wow your parents (or move them to tears). This is a day they’ve been dreaming of for longer than you have, so doing something special for them will certainly go a long way (or right to their hearts).
First up on our list is taking fabric from your mom’s wedding dress or a favorite tie of dad’s. There are so many ways to personalize this! You can wrap the dress fabric around your bouquet, sew dad’s favorite shirt into the bottom of your gown, or create new jewelry from the fabric to wear and keep as a memory from this day. pc: Megan Bennett Photography
Personalization:
Words go such a long way with a parent. Whether it’s a handkerchief embroidered with a favorite quote, personal letter from you to them, or engraved cufflinks as a keepsake for dad, these gifts will last them long after the walk down the aisle has faded.
Pictures:
Don’t forget about photographs! These simple touches throughout your ceremony and reception can easily be something for all the guests to partake in. You can frame old photographs of your mom and dad (if they’re still married) or create breathtaking centerpieces with a few creative touches. Either way you choose, pictures are such a timepiece in history, and many of your guests will enjoy a walk down memory lane.
First Looks:
Just as you schedule in a special moment with your soon-to-be spouse, setting aside time for both your mom and your dad can be so special and worth the extra effort. This time in your life is just as special for them, and it should be celebrated and held close to your heart and theirs. Not to mention, we’ve seen some heartwarming photos of parents with their little girls! pc: Scott Cech Studios
These options are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to showing your love and appreciation for the ones who helped to raise you. I’ve said it so many times regarding how fast your wedding day goes, and I’ll keep saying it! Though it seems like an extra step to plan, this simple act of providing recognition and acknowledgment to your parents goes such a long way and will be something for them to cherish and remember.
