It’s that time of year again when our seasons change and the weather gets cooler, everyone is a little bit more intrigued with pumpkin flavor and bonfires, and many of our couples get engaged!
While this year has certainly not been without obstacles, many couples will begin planning their weddings and working on those little details of what makes a wedding special and unique to them. This includes anything from the first dance to food and, of course, we can’t forget the florals!
Last week we talked about how to save your bouquet AFTER the wedding – but what about before that walk down the aisle? How do you choose which florals to have, let alone what type of bouquet shape to go with?!
There are many options to choose from, all with their own set of pros and cons. Today we will be talking about various bouquets we love and why, and how to ensure your choice is the right one for you.
Round Bouquets
We’ll start with the classics. This bouquet is the perfected tried and true version of a bouquet, featuring a rounded, clustered look of roses, various flowers, and accented colors in rings. You will most likely see these bouquets as the common reference when speaking about wedding florals.
Popularized in recent years by brides and styled shoots alike, this is your option for a more whimsical and elegant look. These bouquets make a statement with a mix of beautiful flowers, sweeping vines or ferns, and draping leaves and florals. The end result is a dramatic set of flowers that flow with your dress right down the aisle!
These bouquets are sweeter and more rustic than regal and sophisticated and are perfect for the bride that is walking down the aisle in a trendy hat or casual but upstated lacy ensemble. These bouquets are slightly messy and bohemian and are usually tied together using a string, ribbon, or piece of wire to create a beautiful masterpiece.
Nosegay Bouquets
For our brides that prefer a simple statement piece, nosegay bouquets are traditionally used for boutonnieres or bridesmaids and can be made with a small variety of florals and foliage. These bouquets are much more simply made than the traditional bouquets that brides carry, but it does not make them any less beautiful! If you want an even smaller-scale option – you can also just opt to carry a single flower like a long-stemmed rose with a ribbon tied to it.
These purse-like handheld bouquets feature a string or ribbon handle and are shaped into a ball. While you do not typically see these featured on the walk down the aisle, many brides opt to use these for decorations and they are often decorated with gems or jewels as embellishment. (This is also a fabulous choice for a flower girl to carry, too. My daughter carried this particular one when she was a flower girl in a wedding many years ago. I just couldn’t part with it!!)
While I love all of these bouquets, one of my very favorite options is seeing what new brides come up with! From broaches to sheet music, the options are endless. Honestly, you can shape any material into a bouquet of sorts and choose something that means the most to you as a couple. If you have inherited some beautiful jewelry from your loved one, consider featuring it in a bouquet of jewels while walking down the aisle. If you and your husband to be both love to read, consider taking your favorite love story, and crafting it into paper flowers for your big day. These bouquets can get really creative and tell the story of you as a couple. How sweet!
There are many options this blog doesn’t begin to cover! Make sure you are speaking with your florist or wedding planner on what options are available to you in order to make the best decision for yourself. Whatever you decide, make sure it compliments you in the best way possible!
